The 11th edition of East Gathering successfully concluded in Hokkaido, Japan, last Saturday. Organized by the Japanese Commercial Environment Designers Association (JCD) in collaboration with the Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA) and the Chinese Society of Interior Designers (CSID), this three-day event drew over 70 designers from Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan to participate in this significant occasion.
Participants visited Es Con Field Hokkaido to explore the design concepts and challenges of this remarkable baseball stadium. They also attended a seminar to discuss design ideas among participants from Hong Kong, Japan, and Taiwan. This seminar facilitated an exchange of ideas across different regions in Asia and fostered generational integration by showcasing design concepts from both master and young presenters.
Founded in 2010, East Gathering (EG) was a collaborative initiative by the Hong Kong Interior Design Association (HKIDA), the Japanese Commercial Environment Designers Association (JCD), and the Korean Society of Interior Designers (KOSID). The EG family has been growing bigger ever since founded and we had Chinese Society of Interior Designers (CSID) from Taiwan joined in 2016 and Society of Interior Designers Singapore (SIDS) participated in 2018 respectively. The event aims to attract design professionals, design students and the general public by making them aware of the aesthetics and philosophy of Asian interior design.

HKIDA was honoured to be invited to participate in PMQ Re-edit Hong Kong Showcase exhibition during 18 Sep to 4 Oct.For the installation “Bao Shan”, architectural, interior, lighting and space designers from HKIDA teamed up to encapsulate the spirit of the Bun Festival and explore how a celebrated heritage can be remade into something new. Composed of a more approachable set of rolling hills, and fitted with lighting fixtures and a fog machine, the 9,000-bun installation playfully reimagines the bun mountains as a metonymy of actual cultural artefacts found in Hong Kong. While bun-snatching over bun mountains is competitive and an adrenaline rush, the designers’ re-creation allows visitors to enjoy Bao Shan in an unorthodox but still meaningful manner.Special thanks to Mr. Joey Ho, Mr. Enoch Hui, Mr. Tik Chan, Mr. Max Lam, Mr. CM Jao and Mr. Ken Cheung for their contribution to this installation.Let’s visit Re-edit and explore Hong Kong with the designers!Date丨18 September to 4 October, 2020Time丨 11am to 8pmVenue丨Marketplace, PMQFree entry
