Hong Kong Interior Design Association

Dear Members,

We are pleased to tell you that the Professional Guideline for the Hong Kong Interior Design Industry has been published and officially launched at the Press Conference on 20 June, 2014. Antony Chan (Chairman of HKIDA), Kinney Chan (Past-Chairman and Fellow Member of HKIDA) and Horace Pan (Chairman of RIDA Project & Vice-chairman of HKIDA (International affairs)) introduced the Guideline and its impact to the industry, local interior designers and public in general during the event.

The Guideline will spell out the knowledge and responsibilities of interior designers of different levels as well as the content and scope of varying levels of academic programs for interior design in Hong Kong.

Key features of the Professional Guideline include:

  • Proposed 3-part Educational System for Interior Designer
  • 2 year mentorship system for fresh graduates in interior design
  • Qualification Framework for Hong Kong Interior Design Practitioners
  • Continuing Education point system
  • Code of Professional Conduct for Interior Designers
  • Standard contract for Interior Design consultancy and Design and Build

With the publication of the Professional Guideline for the Interior Design Industry in Hong Kong, the local interiors profession will have a common standard by which to measure its knowledge and ability, and a direction by which students and practitioners can enhance their professionalism. This guideline will provide a framework for those wishing to supplement their knowledge with continuing education, and for academic institutions which seek to fulfill this need. We hope you will take some time to look at this Guideline and support HKIDA in its effort to raise the level of the Hong Kong interior design industry.
